Smera Productions based in San Jose, California was founded in 1996 by Hari Mahesh.  Its first feature length film is CULT.  The movie opened in June 2000 and was showcased in the New York International Film and Video Festival, December 2000.  Its second film, LOVE, opened in Fresno in July, 2003, receiving a range of acclaim and awards and is distributed by Netflix. Its next feature, SHANTI, has been announced and the production is expected to commence in November 2008.
